My Blog: Canuck's Cynics' Corner

Because I, on occasion, have something worthy to say or feel the need to rant about something I decided to give myself my own blog. That is the great thing about having administrative powers and being the person more-or-less in charge... you get to give yourself things.

Since I've been involved with survivalism for more-or-less my entire life I've managed to learn a few things along the way, as much as that may come as a surprise to some it just happens to be so, and I do like to pass on any knowledge, tips or tricks I've picked up along the way. I've learned a few lessons the hard way, and if I can prevent someone from making the same mistakes I have then I consider that a good thing. I don not consider myself an expert by any means, and I do make mistakes.

When I go on rants it is usually politics related in some way. I moved to a new country, the US, in part to get away from some of the silliness so common in Canadian politics. Since I was in a new country I figured it was only proper that I learn as much about my new country as possible. Sure, I learned about the history of the US when I was in school in Canada, but there is nothing like going to original documents such as the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Federalist and Anti-Federalist papers along with the many writings of the day to get a true grasp for things.

Because I went to original documents I came away with a view point that was as close as I can get to the one I feel the Founding Fathers had. I view things in what could be called a Constitutional perspective and have found that the country I now call home is not the same country these men strove so hard to create. In many ways this angers and saddens me, for what was imbued with so much light and hope has in many ways been undone. I have been called a patriot, which I take as a great complement since I can never truly consider myself an American, and as reinforcement that I have gotten as close to the views held by the Founding Fathers over 200 years ago.

When one reads what was written then, the ideas and hopes, and one compares that to the United States of America of today, one sees they are not the same. What was originally created has in many respects become that which the Founding Fathers warned about. If everyone could read those words written long ago they would see that what waa created was worthy and good and worth the respect of all people no matter where they live in the world.
